MEMORIE CA MATERIE

My visual discourse is born at the intersection of past and present, as an attempt to materialize the emotions and memories that define us. Memory is the foundation of our existence. We inevitably return to our origins, where fragments of the past or tangible objects trigger new states and connections; they construct us and carry us forward. For me, this excavation into the layers of memory is essential to express visually how the world reflects within me—a world profoundly shaped by the lived experience and aesthetics of my childhood years in Yemen.

Matter becomes my primary tool: mass, volume, structure, and energy—concrete elements that challenge our sensory perception. I am drawn to the alternation of textures, the hybridization of materials, and the scenography of light and shadow. Through the vibration it releases, the energy of contrasts generates a vivid compositional tension.

The geometry of the artworks rigorously aligns with the chosen concept. The circle asserts itself as an absolute presence, a pure form that instantly captures the gaze. As a symbol of the macrocosm, balance, and universal cyclicity—visible in the rhythm of nature, lunar phases, or at a cellular level—the circle encapsulates an initiatory journey, the image of primal perfection, and the manifestation of the self.
